Even More Christmastime in LibraryLand

As promised, here's some additional tips to make the holidays at your library a
little more festive, or at the very least, notorious in your county/state/metro
area:

• ILL Tip: Whenever someone asks how long it'll take for a book to arrive, show them an extensive Powerpoint presentation detailing what Santa has to go through to deliver their request in a sleigh pulled by eight tiny reindeer.
• Cut out the heads from the ALA Read poster series and make Christmas ornaments.


• Wrap that co-woker who hasn't moved since the late eighties from the desk next to you in green construction paper and clear book cover jackets and roll them out to the children's section as an impromptu Christmas tree. Have the children decorate with colored Post-It flags, barcodes and book repair tape.


• For the pagan contingent: Dress up in a UPS delivery outfit and collect scores of tracking confirmation slips. Pile them in the middle of your workroom, set them on fire and say a prayer to the goddess of free ground shipping for ontime delivery.


• Have your library director dress up like Perry Como or Judy Garland and recreate a sixties-era Christmas special for that very special Christmas display. (Hint: let the director pick which celeb he/she wants to dress up as and use disaffected library clerks as the fake family-opening-presents backdrop.) Have the director sing Silent Night and release the recently-recaptured cats from the nativity scene just when he/she hits the high note.
